The RSPB have been drawn up plans to improve the welcome for visitors, including replacing the toilet block, improving disabled access, repairing the car park, adding staff and volunteer welfare facilities, improving the Discovery Area, replacing Ferry Hide and re-instating Ferry Pool as a wetland area. The overall costs are estimated to be in the region of £400,000, with the bulk of the funding being provided by WSCC/RSPB and, hopefully, grants from Veolia and HLF. The Friends have allocated £30,000 specifically towards the Education Shelter in the Discovery Area and the replacement hide overlooking Ferry Pool. This project will also enable Friends to make individual donations in recognition of family and friends by, for example, buying a ‘plank’ or a tree. Full details of the overall project, including a handout, are available at the Visitor Centre and there will be a presentation at our AGM in October.
