Aim

To assist in the conservation of all forms of flora and fauna at Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve, and to advance the education of the general public in subjects relating to the conservation and protection of Pagham Harbour.

History

The Friends of Pagham Harbour, registered charity number 1000136, was formed in 1974 to support the Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve.

The Friends involve themselves and also contribute to the costs of various wildlife surveys, including the study of moths, flies, beetles, and water voles. This provides records of previously unknown rare species found at the reserve, such as lichens, moths, beetles, bees and snails. These vital surveys will ensure management of the reserve will be planned to protect these species.

What do the Friends do?

The Friends of Pagham Harbour contribute financially to the maintenance and enhancement of the nature reserve. The money comes from membership subscriptions, fund raising events and occasional bequests.

Money is regularly spent on:

  1. Purchasing equipment and resources for the purpose of education and conservation.
  2. The Friends also contribute to some staff salaries.

For 2007, the Friends are making significant contributions towards new bird hides. They are able to do this thanks to a generous bequest from Felix Morris Lieven-Bauwens. A two tier hide will replace the present hide at the Ferry Pool. This will offer a different perspective of the Ferry Pool and will also have huge value for educational groups and the general public. This hide is being fully funded by the Friends of Pagham Harbour.
